if Marvin Rich is the president of crispus attucks park, what exactly are his plans for it? Other than driving around on it with a truck and blaring music or whatever (which tears up the ground and destroys plantings and annoys neighbors) and suing people, does he say how he will maintain and/or improve it? Or is this all about claiming 'public' land for his personal use? Does he want it to revert to prior use and status (fallow wasteland, burned out buildings, criminal activity)? I'm just not getting what his point is or where he's going with his point of view....

It's too bad it was not also mentioned that Rich also believes he owns the long abandoned house nearest to the corner of W and North Capitol St NW. He, according to my neighbors who get to see him in the act, he often pulls the boards off the house and let's himself in. I, along with another neighbor, saw him clean up the yard trash behind that house once and then proclaimed to us neighbors that, "someone better pay me fo this!"

Prior to all this information, I made the mistake of giving her $5 on two occasions in the past 7 days. I felt sorry for her, thinking she needed the money for food, as she requested. I took her less to be a drug addict, thinking she was homeless or living in poverty. I did tell her last time that it wasn't going to be a habit (giving her money).

I live on the 2200 block of Flagler and she knocked on my door one night asking for money. It was after 10 PM. I did not open the door to my vestibule, I told her from a distance "Sorry" in response to her request for money. I later saw her sitting on the stairs of a house on Adams street on the north side of the street and have seen her squatting outside the Flagler Market a few times. I intend to call the police in the future. I have heard from one neighbor that she became combative when he said "no" to her request for money. As described above, she is a heavy set black woman with gray hair and walks slowly. I would recommend calling 911 should you see her. I know I will in the future, especially now that I hear additional unfortunate stories.

She was walking down Flagler again yesterday in the late afternoon begging for money. Her reason she needed money this time was for her HIV medication so it seems she comes up with a new story each time. She definitely seemed out of it but thankfully I didn't see her go into a rage at anyone (probably because someone actually gave her cash). She also recently knocked on our door at 10 pm at night to ask for money. I find this pattern very disconcerting and scary, especially knowing now that she has threatened people and become violent.

I don't think the people looking for Zip Cars will create a crime wave. I would, though, worry about those who might hang out with the intent of robbing the Zippers.

We have seen her on Flagler Pl recently. She threatened one neighbor after he declined her and she flew into a fit of rage and threatened to get her 45 at at home. I also watched her ask someone if they knew where she could buy crack and then beg another neighbor for money so she could "buy crack." She literally said that to justify the request.

New this year, we're also doing a Taste of Bloomingdale- -sample small plates from neighborhood restaurants, including Boundary Stone, Rustik, Shaw's Tavern, Windows, Beau Thai, Bistro Bohem and more! My car was broken into twice. Stole GPS and I purchased another and then they stole that one. They broke into my truck took off with my golf clubs but my ,neighbor heard them and they dropped them in the alley. SO I was able to recover them. Yea my car has been broken in twice. Two times my GPS was stolen. It was out of plain sight. These kids are coming into neighborhoods where they believe they can steal these items. Things have gotten better. I have lived in this neighborhood since 1995 when I was a student at Howard and I can tell you stories. So things are going to continue to get better. Change takes time.

I agree with Kerry above. Don't let these thieves change your life. You got your scooter back which is more than some folks have after being robbed. MPD seems to be doing a better job than they used to (when stuff got stolen it used to be you never saw it again and at least MPD5 answers its phone!). So, upgrade your security and commit to being here for the long haul and call in ANYTHING suspicious to 911. These thieves will be caught!

Don't give up something you love and that is likely a convenience for you because of a onetime event. I'd recommend you taking steps to enhance the security of your garage and keep the faith that Bloomingdale is closer to the place we'd hope it would become than that which we found when many of us moved in. I've got to tell you that I've made some improvements (security devices, cameras, and fortifications) and they've made a huge difference just in dissuading folks from taking advantage and breaking into something appearing 'easy' to gain entry to. While I can understand your frustration, I couldn't imagine not living with a bike that I use every day and that I find incredibly convenient so think about it and when the dust settles make a decision on a clear head...

UPDATE: i got a call from MPD last night, and they found my scooter in anacostia, driven by a young teenage boy. they made an arrest. although my scooter will be returned, i'm going to sell it, because i don't want the hassle of my garage being potentially broken into again.
