McMillan redevelopment team requests extension on portion of project

The team behind the redevelopment of McMillan Reservoir is applying for a two-year extension on a portion of the project as it remains mired in appeals years after its approval.                

Development team Vision McMillan Partners, a group that includes developers EYA, Jair Lynch Real Estate and Trammell Crow, was given permission last year to move forward with demolition and subdivide the historic 25-acre property bounded by North Capitol, First and Channing streets and Michigan Avenue NW. Opponents filed a petition at that time to halt the project.

McMillan Park Conservancy supports saving the 20 acre under-surface water cisterns for adaptive re-use for public needs and preserving the entire 25 acre historically protected surface park as public land for outdoor recreational green-space. Including the DC reservoir, and a DC Wolf Trap outdoor concert stage with sunset vistas, a DC Glen Echo arts and peformance campus for families, sunlighting Tiber Creek for urban beach, and 20 acre under surface urban agriculture to end DC food deserts as well as farm to table for restaurants. Serviced by a North Capitol monorail, for mass transit to hospital centers and AFRH development to the North, and reducing the urban heat island effect, growing a sustainable urban development demonstration campus, "The New Green Deal " in DC.
