  1. I remember all of those posts. I the developments all just take a lot of time. Does anybody know if Heller's still coming to Bloomingdale? Go Bears. :-)

  2. c'mon hellers! when i moved to bloomingdale last year, i told everyone i could that i'd have a heller's location on my block soon, and people were JEALOUS! now, i just keep telling them "maybe" and "someday". it's a shame nothing has happened on that front. they could be the catalyst that really gets 1st and rhode island hopping

  3. There's so much PR (and BS) associated with these places. I guess when you are trying to get financing and secure a lease, you never air your problems in public.

But I'd like the ANC to sit down with each of these prospective business owners and interview them confidentially, and figure out why they've decided not to locate in Bloomingdale, or why the process has been so slow. Is it availability of credit? If so, maybe there is a red lining issue that needs to be pursued. Is it City regulators? Then we need to holler to our new Mayor. Is it crime? Maybe we need to hire security guards to patrol the (moribund) business strips after dark.

  5. i havent heard anything about hellers. i 've emailed a few times, but they havent answered.

they answered last year when i emailed them.

Big bears progression has been obvious, and they have had a public event. so there has been great community interaction.

the place is looking good too.

  7. YES,YES, YES, that is one of the best ideas I have heard. Hiring security patrol sounds like a good idea. I would think that crime might have something to do with the progress of our business strips.

Also, it's very important to fight for brick sidewalks, replace trees, clean up trash and make Bloomingdale a desirable place. By doing this, it may attract good citizens into the area to support these businesses.

  8. Hellers mentioned in their email that they are doing the mechanical drawings for the store, which then have to be approved by the city, and then be built. They wish the procedures were easier, and expect to open sometime this year

JM: I encourage you to voice your concerns at the next ANC meeting scheduled for Tuesday February 20 at 7 p.m. at McKinley Tech High School. You may also feel free to drop me an email.
