Of the four cultural scene categories listed -- food, fashion, arts and entertainment -- Bloomingdale gets a mention under the nightlife category.

Possibly driving this neighborhood focus, Reza notes, is gentrification. New residents are moving en masse into Petworth, Bloomingdale and other areas that lack many restaurants and bars. ``They`re spending more time in their own neighborhoods,`` he says, and don`t want to travel every time they want to grab a beer and watch a football game.``

Bloomingdale's Rustik Tavern would match this description -- a place where reisdents can go to grab a beer and watch a football game -- in their own neighborhood.

  1. It's not clear to me if there's enough people locally to support more restaurants here. To survive they have to pull in people from all over the city and burbs. i'm not sure i want a lot more drinking and entertainment businesses in Bloomingdale as I kind of like the less busy streets at night and not having to compete (too much) for parking. Or am i imagining the worst?
