And note that the name of the location in Bloomingdale is not explicitly mentioned.

Teaming up to build a super playground
Children from the Bloomingdale neighborhood in Northwest Washington will get the playground of their dreams, thanks to the Washington Capitals, Capitals defenseman Mike Green, DC 101 DJ Elliot Segal and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to saving play.
Children will draw their dream playgrounds and designers will incorporate elements from their pictures into a final design of the playground, to be built September 15, 2011. It will provide a safe place for more than 600 children to play.

Wow, this would be pretty cool! Found this Examiner link in a Google search: http://washingtonexaminer.com/local/2011/07/teaming-build-super-playground
ReplyDeleteSays the same thing as posted above. Can't wait to see where!!
Potentially the park just south of Florida Ave at First? This isn't technically Bloomingdale, but that's my best guess.
ReplyDeleteCould the park at 1st and Florida hold 600 kids? This would be completely awesome, but feels like one of those too-good-to-be-true moments. Here is hoping though!
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for the community. I hope to find additional information about this park and help get the word out about it. Great opportunity for the community,
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be on P St. between 1st and N. Cap!
ReplyDeleteThe playground will be built in one day with the help of about 200 local volunteers and will be a joined effort between Associates for Renewal in Education, The Washington Capitals, Mike Green and DC 101 DJ Elliot Segal, and KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit organization, dedicated to saving play. The playground build will happen on Thursday, September 15th. This playground will be open to the general public so that all the kiddos in the neighborhood can use it.
ReplyDeleteYou do not want your child playing at the park at First and Florida. I have lived in this neighborhood almost all my life and I can assure you that that is not the best place to take your child. The video on the Capitals' Tumblr states that the new playground will be at the Associates for Renewal in Education, which is on P Street in the direction of North Capitol and NOT in Bloomingdale. It's in the Truxton Circle neighborhood, but some kids from Bloomingdale attend there as well. I have worked at ARE a couple summers ago and I know first-hand that those children NEED this playground. If that is going to be the only playground being built, it will be private property because it is a school and will be locked up when the building is closed.
