roofer referral: Daniel Parks Roofing

From a 1st Street NW resident:

Finally found a roofer who was very efficient, timely and it was not terribly expensive to have my roof replaced.

I searched long and hard for a roofer and finally settled on Daniel Parks Roofing and Gutters (a family business). I specifically appreciated that the contract did not include all the different layers of fees (haul away, boards replaced, more than 2 layers of old roofing....) that others had. Those fee always made me feel that I should expect the unexpected and that it may not be budgeted.

I was very happy with the work, it was done exactly as we discussed, no surprises. When I called I spoke with one of the Parks, not "let me get your info and someone will call you back". They were all very informative (I spoke with the father and 2 sons), responded to questions as asked and could provide all of the detail needed. I was most impressed with Tom's explanation of the roof and skylight that I had and what was missing and or had not been done properly in the past. Tom took before, during and after pictures, that showed me pride in their work, nothing to hide.

So if you are in need of a roofer, you might consider giving Daniel Parks Roofing and Gutters a call (202-489-1728), one of them will answer.

  1. DO NOT USE. I hired this company based on a recommendation from my neighborhood list serve. We had some damage to an outside facing wall. We called this company and they assessed the problem and told us we had a leak in our roof. They charged us $2700 to apply a sealant to the roof and put a cap on the chimney which they claimed would stop the leak. This took about half a day to complete. They then said to watch the next time it rained and take a look a the wall for any moisture to make sure they got all the weak points in the roof. Sure enough it rained and the wall was moist so I called them. They came back and in a matter of minutes told us a new story -- the problem with the wall was not from the roof but the ENTIRE outside back wall needed to be repointed and sealed (note we had the entire house repointed in 2006 so that is not the problem). Sure enough they offered to do the sealing and minor repointing (not the whole wall) if needed for the bargain price (add sarcasm) of $1700. So we were scammed because there was never anything wrong with our roof in the first place - it was the back wall all along. In my opinion because they completely misdiagnosed the problem they should offer to put the sealant on the back wall and point for free or at most cost of the materials. Anyway, buyer beware Daniel Parks Roofing is a dishonest and or incompetent company.
