A Neighbor passed along this request for stories of the Giant in Shaw.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any fond (or less-than-fond) memories of the O Street Giant in Shaw, please let me know. I’m collecting them for a story on the store, which seems to be universally acknowledged as one of the worst grocery stores in D.C. Call (703.842.1734) or email (jrogers@tbd.com).

I don't think anyone's really going to miss it too much.

I am *definitely* going to miss having a regular ol' grocery store (not a farmer's market, not Whole Foods, although I shop at those and have nothing against them) within a short walking distance of the neighborhood. And the new mixed-use development looks like...all the other mixed-use developments in DC. Inevitable march of progress and all, but it's still a shame to go without, especially for a lot of the older residents in the Shaw neighborhood.
ReplyDeletei haven't been to that giant in almost 10 years. at the time i don't think i thought of it as the worst, and it was 24 hours, so that made it pretty convenient.

ReplyDeleteOur Giant is certainly not the best, but far from the worst. Anyone who shopped at the safeway on 17th(soviet) can attest. I will be sad to see it go but excited to see what comes along----trader joes anyone????
ReplyDeleteChange is never easy but always interesting. Hopefully the neighborhood comes out on top.
