seeking referrals for a good, local tailor

See this request from a 2nd Street NW resident:

I'm looking for a tailor.

First priority is that they're good, second priority that they're local.

  1. Cheryl Lofton, whose business is on T St between 7th and 8th Sts, is fantastic: she has altered a couple suits for my husband, and she tailored my wedding dress and did a beautiful job. Could not recommend her any more highly.

  2. I've used City Cleaners - on First / T and Rhode Island -- for a dress (pretty simple) and couple tailored woman's trousers (not so simple). Both fit perfectly afterwards! Reasonable for price and turnaround time.

  3. +1 to Becky's recommendation of Cheryl Lofton at 8th and T. My wife got her wedding dress altered there and had a great experience.

  4. Another vote for Cheryl Lofton - she's amazing. I was given a fantastic Burberry trench - w/ zip-lining - that was perfect, except for being a size 10 and I'm a 2. They completely deconstructed and reassembled it, and it fits like a dream. Looks like I have a brand new coat. The more you care about your garment, the more satisfied you'll be with her work.

  5. Ms. Mae on North Capitol and Bryant. Her number is (202)387-7062. She works out of her home and does beautiful work. I've had her alter and hem numerous pants, suits, dresses, shirts, etc. Her work is impeccable and entering her house is always a treat because it smells like baked goods and feels like you've stepped back in time to another era.
