Subject:Updated Weather and Flooding Mitigation Steps

All,

Below is the updated weather and steps the District government is taking to mitigate any potential flooding in the Bloomingdale area. A DC Alert has been sent to the Bloomingdale area residents describing the potential threat and steps that can be taken to assist with flooding prevention.

Steve Glaude, please forward this on to the civic associations and other stakeholders for their situational awareness.

Weather Update and Proactive Actions:

National Weather reports the chance of showers throughout the day expecting 1-2 inches over the next 24hrs with showers tapering off early afternoon Wednesday. Expect an additional inch Wednesday afternoon before tapering off.

Due to repetitive flooding in the Bloomingdale neighborhood the Government of the District of Columbia and its partners are taking the following actions;

· DC Water: Crews dispatched throughout the area of concern ensuring the catch basins remain free and clear of trash and other debris and also that all pumps are functioning properly.

· DDOT: Has placed message boards to alert motorists in the affected area of flash flood dangers between Rhode Island Ave. and Florida Ave. before 1st Street. Dispatching trucks and crews to assist with clearing standing water.

· DPW: Establishing a sandbag distribution point at 200 Bryant Street NW from 1:00 to 5:00 PM for the Bloomingdale neighborhood to help residents and businesses mitigate the effects of flash flooding.
