Metro to hold public meetings for Metrobus Route 80 Study Riders, community members, Metro to discuss bus service problems and solutions
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority will host two public meetings Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15, as part of the Metrobus Route 80 North Capitol Street Line Study.
The meetings will take place:
· Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. atProvidence Hospital, 1150 Varnum Street, NE, Washington, DC, in the Ross Auditorium.
· Thursday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at thePhoenix Park Hotel, 520 North Capitol Street, NW, Washington, DC.
The purpose is to hear directly from riders of the 80 route about issues with the service and potential improvements that would address them. The meetings are open to all, and no registration is required.
Upon arriving at the public meetings, participants can review information about the study and speak individually with the project team. The meetings will be “open house” style, meaning that participants may arrive any time between the start and end time of each meeting. No presentation will be given; instead, the meetings are intended to start a dialogue between Metro and riders about possible solutions to improve Metrobus Route 80.
After the public meetings, the study team will use the suggestions received from participants to create a set of improvement options. The options will be evaluated by Metro, planners and riders, and the study will culminate in a set of recommendations that will be presented to the public and the Metro Board for approval in mid-2013.
Metrobus Route 80 runs from Fort Totten Metro station in Northeast, Washington, DC, to the Kennedy Center via North Capitol Street. The line currently has around 7,500 passengers on an average weekday, one of the largest riderships in the Metrobus system.
Spanish translators and visual materials in Spanish will be available.
