a day in the life of Bloomingdale
See this message from a Bloomingdale resident:
It's
late Saturday morning. An ANC commissioner finds four 45-caliber shells in the
alley and reports the find to police. Two police cars arrive and spend some
time investigating. Meanwhile neighbors come out to socialize, curious about
the police, and to learn more about a vehicle accident at 3 a.m. that set off
house alarms. Some never heard a thing.
As
we gather on the steps of one rowhouse, the residents bring a pot of freshly
made southern cheesy grits and several serving bowls to share with the
gathering neighbors. A bowl of grapes appears and is passed around. Offers of
fresh coffee abound. People come and go, lingering to discuss a myriad of
subjects. Forty minutes later everyone retreats into their houses.
Not
long afterwards many neighbors are out again sprucing up the front yards or
trimming the trees in the tree boxes. Others come out to help, bringing tools
and trash cans. They plant a climbing rose at the base of a light pole, cut
back ivy, share plants with each other.
Meanwhile a constant flow of residents pass by either on bikes, jogging,
or walking perhaps to Shaw's Tavern or Big Bear for lunch. Each smiling and
friendly. The gardening and cleanup continues till the sun settles behind the
turrets. Just another typical long and productive and social day here in Bloomingdale.
Be proud to live in Bloomingdale, a wonderful place with beautiful homes and
friendly residents. Get engaged and discover how wonderful it is to live in
such a great area.
It is a good feeling to live in our hood!
