We have the most lovable little lady canine looking for a
forever home. Fern, a 10-month old tawny brindle pitt bull terrier, was found
nearly starved by the SE Montana community garden. She was running up to
porches and desperately looking for her home. Though emaciated and stressed, we
were able to coax her to us, and in short order she had jumped into my arms and
was licking my face. She slept in my lap in the back of a police car while we
waited for animal control (the cops brought her two cans of dog food which she
scarfed down). After getting a clean bill of health and a little weight on her,
Fern has moved from the NY Avenue shelter to our home in Bloomingdale. We would
love to keep this sweet girl, but our apartment already has cats and a dog. We
want to find a caring family for her.
Since moving into foster care Fern has proved to be a quiet
and attentive snuggle bug who loves taking long walks, giving kisses, and
getting tummy rubs. A light touch is all that’s needed with Fern—she’s eager to
learn house rules and please her human parents. She has quickly and
effortlessly learned sit, down, paw, leave-it, settle down, and drop it. Once a
voracious toy chewer in the shelter, Fern now gladly exchanges anything for a
treat, and loves playing fetch. She’s a beautiful leash walker and would be a
great running partner. She politely greets new humans and canines alike. Fern
is crate-training and potty-trained. Since she's still a puppy she will need
more obedience work and regular dog/people socialization, as well as two big
walks/play sessions a day (playing ball is a great way to accomplish this). She
doesn't seem to be interested in cats, and would probably do well with bigger
dogs. She may be pushy with smaller dogs, but is responsive to boundaries you set.
Most of all, Fern wants to be your devoted companion and
settle down in a stable, loving forever home—could it be yours?
