Councilmember McDuffie Invites Residents to His State of the Ward Address
Councilmember McDuffie would like to invite all Ward 5 residents to join him on Tuesday, June 25th, for his State of the Ward Address. The event will be an opportunity for the community to come together to reflect on the many accomplishments we have seen throughout Ward 5, as well as a chance for Councilmember McDuffie to outline his vision for the future of the Ward. The State of the Ward Address will be held at Luke C. Moore High School, located at 1001 Monroe Street, NE, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Parking will be available in the school’s parking lot or residents can utilize on-street parking. Residents may also use the Brookland Metro Station to access the site. We hope to see you there!
Councilmember McDuffie Helps Ward 5 Get Two Additional Bikeshare Stations
Due to the efforts of Councilmember McDuffie’s office, two new Capital Bikeshare stations were installed this week in Ward 5. Residents can now pickup bikes at the Woodridge Library and 12th and Irving Street, NE. In 2008, the District became the first jurisdiction in North America to launch a bikesharing system. Residents Are Encouraged to Attend the Mid City East Small Area Plan and Livability Study Neighborhood Meetings in June
The next set of meetings hosted by The Mid City East Initiative will take place during the month of June. The Mid City East Initiative is a joint effort of the Office of Planning (OP) and the Department of Transportation (DDOT) to holistically plan for transportation, commercial revitalization, redevelopment, historic resources, sustainability and parks and open space. The Ward 5 meetings will take place on:

Summer Learning Series – Doing Business with Clark Construction, June – August
Learn from Clark Construction staff experts in a free summer learning series about how to improve purchasing, estimating, and project management skills on projects. There will be three classes in each session and three available sessions for residents. The first sessions will be on June 12, 19, and 26; the second session will be on July 10, 17, and 24; the third session will be on August 7, 14 and 21. All Wednesday classes are from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm and will be located at the DSLBD Small Business Resource Center at One Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street, NW, 11th floor.
Reminder: 2013 Housing Expo
The D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), in partnership with the Greater Washington Urban League, will celebrate National Homeownership Month by hosting the 5th Annual D.C. Housing Expo “Welcome Home.”
The expo will be held on Saturday, June 1st at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Expo will provide resources for all residents of the District, including information for renters, homeowners, potential homeowners, landlords and residents facing foreclosure. There will be special panel discussions starting at 10:30 a.m. that will help participants explore housing options as well as pragmatic solutions to address specific housing issues as seniors age at home in the community.
