Mayor Gray to Provide Update on Flood Mitigation Efforts in Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park
WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, City Administrator Allen Y. Lew,DC Water General Manager George Hawkins and officials from the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will mark another step forward in the ongoing effort to alleviate flooding in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods.
DDOT will begin a construction project to install a sewer line on Rhode Island Avenue to remove stormwater. Officials also will remind residents to take preventative steps to protect their property in advance of summer storms that might cause flooding.

BACKGROUND: The Mayor’s Task Force on the Prevention of Flooding in Bloomingdale and LeDroit Parkwas formed last fall and issued a final report in January. It found that these neighborhoods were suffering from an outdated sewer system that was simply too small to accommodate today’s needs. The report included 25 recommendations to mitigate flooding, some of which are now being implemented.
