The Help witnessed this. Well he witnessed the crash. He was at 2nd & S going west and the car passed him, crashed, air bags deployed and 4 young black teens grabbed their stuff and ran. The cops were not too far behind them because they showed up soon after and ran after the kids. I told the Help he should have ran the kids over to stop them from getting away (joking, it is a common joke btwn us about his slow driving), but he said they ran past and behind him.
Based on all the trash left over from last Sunday's services - palm fronds, Styrofoam cups and water bottles, I was surprised to see that the car removed so quickly. The trash remains. Never mind the urge to crack wise about the illegal parking that goes on.......
Two of the teens were caught at gun point by the police in my backyard and my neighbor's adjoining yard. (alley between 100 block of S and Randolph, NW)
They seemed to have jumped the brick wall along one portion of our yard (the rest has a 6' fence), ran into the space between the houses and then were immediately caught by police.
Sounds like there were 2 more suspects...?
As for the lack of respect the neighborhood receives from the church and it's parishioners... I'm glad to know it's not just my husband and I that notice. The parking, the trash in my garden and all along the street, the bumping of cars when parking, blocking hydrants, driveways, stop signs and alleys... it's a long list. Prepare yourselves for this weekend!
I saw this mess after coming home last night. Wow! I had not idea the people from that church littered in our neighborhood. I witness the illegal parking every Sunday. I had to yell at one of them one Friday night because she was trying to park a sedan in a spot only big enough for a mini cooper. I wish they would go away.

ReplyDeleteAny word on whether these kids are connected with the recent muggings in Bloomingdale and LeDroit?
