Reminder: Friends of McMillan to Urge CM McDuffie to Ask Mayor Gray to Cancel 6 June Surplus  Meeting for McMillan
The Friends of McMillan will meet with Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie in his office at the Wilson Building on Monday, 3 June at 2 pm to urge him to intervene with Mayor Gray to cancel the 6 June community meeting to designate the Historic McMillan Sand Filtration Site surplus. The Friends will cite a number of reasons why the 6 June surplus meeting should be canceled, including:

--the absence from the public record of key documents, such as the Exclusive Rights Agreement, (despite two FOIA requests), a current fiscal & economic analysis, and an environmental impact analysis,
--the demonstrated widespread opposition to the current plan is shown in close to 2000 signatures collected against the plan and last year's Community Door-to-Door Survey,
--the defective/limited public notice, primarily via electronic means, effectively discouraging participation
--the failure of the Deputy Mayor for Planning & Economic Development to answer the basic question: Why declare the property surplus if the District Government (the owner) is the developer?

“There is a whole lot that we in the community do not understand about this move to surplus McMillan,” says Gwen Southerland, former ANC 5C05 commissioner and current MAG member, “For these reasons, CM McDuffie, in the interests of his constituents, should ask Mayor Gray to cancel the
Thursday meeting to declare the McMillan surplus."
