Children’s National Medical Center free health service regarding a lead-safe home

Dear Bloomingdale Neighbors,

I am writing to let you know about a free health service available from Children’s National Medical Center to all residents of the District of Columbia.  Anyone can call or email us with questions on environmental health

One of the topics we receive numerous questions about is lead. Although lead paint hazards are commonly thought to be an issue of the past, homes built prior to 1978 are likely to have lead present in paint.  Assume that the paint is lead-based and keep it good repair and keep house dust to a minimum.

There are several resources available in DC that you can use to ensure that your home is lead safe:

DC Water
DC Water provides lead test results approximately four to six weeks after samples are delivered to the laboratory. Customers are immediately contacted if the lead level is above the EPA lead action level - 15 parts per billion. To request a free lead test kit, contact Customer Service at 202-354-3600.
