Michael Neibauer: "Same people who hate Vision McMillan plans, will always hate Vision McMillan plans. Same people who want it to move forward now, still do."
Washington Business Journal reporter Michael Neibauer comments on the comments on Vision McMillan Partners revised McMillan site master plan + design guidelines.
Actually, i think that this is the epitome of falsehood. The VMG meme now is becoming that "those reactionaries don't want any development on that land." Total BS. I don't know anybody anywhere that wants to keep McMillan undeveloped. Everybody wants something. I know its difficult to believe, but some people actually opposed the VMG on the grounds it is just not good enough...not good enough for this last great open space in the District. Not good enough for the public land that was purchased and maintained with tax dollars for over a century....not GOOD enough for Washington.... but that this design is just bad design... just another tax base for the city and just another jumble of mediocre (not even) and cheap architecture to throw up in a year or so. Just look at the design. Anybody looking at it, even those uninitiated, can tell you that this is low budget and low end design.... buildings are probably stacked up in some warehouse somewhere just awaiting assembly at the site. Try this simple exercise: Go to google and put in "public housing" and then compare what you see to what is being proposed. That's the calibre here. Enough said.
