Washingtonians need to step up to the soap box and make their voices heard, loud and clear.
I hope my contribution will wake the slumbering masses:

Feel free to share and download and use and distribute my PSA as you wish. My goal is to get people involved, and if they do, that's all the reward I could ask for.
This is some great videography that shows the beauty of man made structures that have been allowed to decay and give way to nature… rusty metal and decaying wood opening into mysterious, collapsing, underground caverns. It would be a really romantic site to sneak into with a date for a picnic. Of course, it would be completely unsafe to open to the public and let children run around in.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the community should be involved in plans for development that respect the site. And, in fact they have been… in discussions that have been going on for decades. The problem is that, in spite of the assertions of certain groups, the “voice of the community” is not a unified one. And, whatever resources the community wishes for need to be planned for in the context of economic reality.
Absolutely, fight for local businesses. Absolutely, fight for programs that use the various public spaces to meet community needs. However, the current plans seem like the best compromise with economic reality that we have seen in the last 20 years. Please don’t derail development so badly that we have to wait another 20 years for the community to be able to enjoy the site.
