“The conditional stamp of approval from the HPRB represents a pretty significant step forward. At long last, the realization of an inhabited McMillan may be on the horizon”
-Washington City Paper, Nov 4, 2013

We shared last week that the Historic Preservation Review Board approved our most recent revisions to the master plan and design concepts for the McMillan Sand Filtration site. This is a huge step forward – one that allows us to now pursue approval from the Mayor’s Agent and finally the Zoning Commission.

We would like to invite you to view the revised plans approved by HPRB, get the facts and talk directly with the development team about your thoughts and questions at an OPEN HOUSE this Saturday, November 16th, 10am – 1pm at St. George’s Episcopal Church (2nd and U Streets, NW).

For more information and to RSVP, email mcmsalon@gmail.com or call me at 202-355-8998. You can also visit our new website: www.EnvisionMcMillan.com for new renderings and a fly through video.

We look forward to sharing our plans and answering your questions this Saturday!

Sincerely,

Tania Jackson

  1. It should probably be cleared up that the HPRB did not approve any plans. Rather, the HPRB actions state:

The Board: (A) Determined that the proposal will result in substantial demolition, as defined in the preservation regulations, and therefore inconsistent with the purposes of the Historic Landmark and Historic District Protection Act; (B) Found the revised master plan has been developed to retain important character-defining features of the site sufficient to convey its historic characteristics; (C) Found the revised concept designs to represent an architecturally coordinated and cohesive approach that specifically relates to the character of the McMillan site; and (D) Asked that the project return for final review after approval by the
    Zoning Commission and Mayor’s Agent.

  2. Correct - the HPRB does not have the authority to approve or disapprove of anything. However, what they did do is unanimously vote in favor of allowing the VMP proposal to move forward in the approval process to the Mayor's Agent and Zoning. In doing so, the HPRB acknowledged that all of their requirements have been met with regard to preservation and historic character.

  3. Tania interesting selection of photos! How about showing the hideous 13 story high office and medical buildings instead - you know the ones that look like tombs and are horrific - a la Tyson's corner?!?! Stop misleading the public with your deception and bullshit! You really are soulless!

  4. Paul,

That is certainly a fair point but I would suggest that your last statement is an assumption just as I assume the project must undergo a final HPRB review because the plans were not approved. Either way, my hope was just to present the facts of the matter, which are the above stated actions of the HPRB.

I would encourage anyone interested in learning more information to listen to the archived webcast of the HPRB meeting: http://view.earthchannel.com/PlayerController.aspx?&PGD=dczoning&eID=222

Keep in mind that the entire video on McMillan is nearly 3 hours long...
