DC Water update on water main break at 1st and V Street NW in Bloomingdale

Status Update for water main break at 1^st & V Streets NW.

DC Water Department of Water Services is on site assisting in determining the extent of the needed repairs. It was agreed with Inspector Thomas Wilson and General Foreman Curtis Brown, that Pepco would excavate the location of the main break which will take approximately 1 ½ hours (as mentioned by Ron Davis). DWS will dispatch a repair crew to make the necessary repairs once the area is prepared.

It appears that the damage is a full circular break that is affecting the main in the vicinity of where repairs where recently made to a service line by the contractor. The area that is out of water is the 2300 Block of 1^st Street NW and the 100 Block of U Street NW. Additionally, the south bound lane of the 1^st Street is closed between U & V Streets NW.

I am awaiting a time confirmation of when the repair crew will be on location, and as to when the area will be restored to normal water services. Thank you.

Carlton,

I have been onsite this morning with respect to this situation.

·        Watermain break in SW quadrant of First and V St. in excavation of Pepco Contractor (Hinkle) – 100-200 gpm. No surface flooding. Water finding path underground.

·        Crews discovered leak this morning underneath street plates. Determined cracked main near where recent water service repairs were made.

·        DC Water Operations Crew arrive 10 a.m. Shut off water on First St. between U and V. Some undermining of First Street (Roadbed: Gravel base/1 foot concrete/with asphalt topping).

·        Currently assessing street repair. DC Water Operations crew bringing in street Contractor.  Currently don’t have ETA on water service restoration.

I will update as conditions warrant.
