Tom,
Since the construction began in earnest, the stop sign at 1st and V Streets NW has been covered for cars going southbound. They literally cannot see it at all. It is difficult for me to explain how poor this is in terms of planning. Cars are now speeding through that intersection at full speed despite there being a blind corner with pedestrians and bikers trying to cross 1st Street.
This is a HUGE liability for you guys that needs to be fixed ASAP. If someone gets hurt there, it is going to confirm all of the neighborhood's worst fears about this project and cause a huge s**t storm. This is exactly why the the residents wanted that street shut down; because they are earnestly concerned about safety.
Respectfully, but deeply concerned at the moment,

Congratulations Austin,
DC Water’s First Street Tunnel Team would like to congratulate you on becoming a new ANC Commissioner.
We look forward to working with you during the construction phase of this important project.
As you know, DC Water has established a community Tunnel Forum group, that meets regularly, to present the FST construction schedule and to listen to community concerns.
The next meeting is Thursday, July 31st. In advance of that meeting, John Kennedy, DC Water Construction Manager and I would like brief you at the 2036 First Street site office, and if your schedule allows include a site walk to each construction staging areas.
John and I are available this week on Wednesday, July 2 after 10am through the afternoon. If this does not work for you, give us a time after the holiday that may fit your schedule.
Sincere Regards,
Tom
