front face of 160 Adams Street NW has been removed

See this 08-06-2014 message and pic from a neighbor:

The front brick face of 160 Adams NW has been knocked out.  They're going to wreck the roofline with the pop-up already, let's at least hope they don't wreck the face line of the street with inconsistent windows and a bump out that doesn't match.

  1. Maybe they're looking to do something like this one on 11th?

    1. That's being generous. Here is something from his portfolio:

      This is a serious problem.

  2. I'm actually more a fan of a variety of rooflines. The sameness is rather stagnant. If its like the popup on 11th, it should be fine. Lets hope.

  3. If Taja is at the wheel i'd be worried about the quality of the construction.

  4. A variety of rooflines is fine. It exisits in neighborhoods such as in Capitol Hill and in Georgetown. Yet in those neighborhoods there tends to be some compatability in material use and some design form as it they are historic districts. Here we are allowing incompatible design forms. Thats the difference in what causes the "GASPS" in our additions. I refrain from the term pop-up. There are all kinds of incompatible additions that are being done in the neighborhood. Those should also be of concern. So we could try and support the introduction of conservation districts as a tool for our neighborhood, so that additions do not stand out as unsympathetic to the street frontages and neighborhood character in general.
