The controversial project, the subject of strong neighborhood opinion on both sides, will almost certainly be appealed by opponents to the D.C. Court of Appeals.
"Stage 1 PUD is approved. Stay tuned for next steps from us. This isn't the end - just another step in the process for us," @McMillanPark, which has organized the opposition to the McMillan development plan, tweeted immediately after the vote.

The first stage PUD approval will remain in effect for two years. A second, more detailed application must follow during that period, or the order could expire (though, usually, extensions are provided).
