Neighbors,

At least three vehicle crimes have been committed on the 400 block of U Street within a two-week time span.  All three occurred during daylight hours.

On January 29, a criminal attempted to steal a vehicle parked on the 400 block of U Street.  The criminal broke the steering column and removed the ignition cylinder, but the anti-theft immobilizer prevented the vehicle from being moved.  The estimated time of the crime was between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m., during daylight hours.  A report was made to the police.

         

On February 10, at about 10:00 a.m. (during daylight hours), a criminal broke the window of a car parked on the 400 block of U Street and stole a laptop.  A report was made to the police.

  

On February 12, at about 3:00 p.m. (during daylight hours), a criminal broke the window of a truck parked on the 400 block of U Street NW and stole a bag containing a laptop.  A report was made to the police.

            

In addition to the foregoing crimes, a report was made to the police on January 22 concerning a suspicious person looking in the window of two vehicles parked in the 400 block of U Street, attempting to compromise one of the vehicles, triggering a car alarm, and fleeing on foot.  The incident occurred at about 8:00 a.m., during daylight hours.

None of these crimes have been solved.  Is this acceptable in our neighborhood?
