POST:

Bloomingdale Cooperative Playschool Teacher Position

The Bloomingdale Cooperative Playschool is looking for a part-time substitute teacher for our children aged two to four years old.  The position is for approximately 4 weeks during April and May.

Purpose: To provide a safe, secure, developmentally appropriate, fun learning environment for toddlers and preschool aged children.

Scope: The teacher will be the cornerstone of an effective program to nurture children in their first structured learning environment, working closely with the board of directors and parents to create a program that inspires curiosity, secure relationship building, and a lifelong love of learning. The position will begin mid April and run for 4 weeks, part-time with core classroom hours of 8:30am - 12:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  Pay is generous and includes non-classroom planning time.  Work environment is very supportive and friendly.

Responsibilities:
Respect each child and model ongoing respect for all children and their work;
Design student-centered, developmentally appropriate loosely structured curriculum plans;
Develop culturally appropriate and diverse programs and activities;
Ensure classroom materials and environment are clean, well-maintained, and safe;
Observe and engage with children to support their natural tendency to learn;
Communicate frequently with board/parents about program needs, problems, or ideas;
Assign tasks to duty parents to help you in your lead teaching role

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates must be committed to a playschool curriculum approach, have experience working with young children, and possess strong classroom management skills. In addition we give preference to candidates who have the following educational qualifications: BA in early childhood ed. or related field OR CDA plus lead teaching experience. Background check required.

Training in Montessori or RIE Education is preferred but not mandatory. The successful candidate will have a love of teaching and inspiring young minds, and will show patience, kindness, respect, and affection to all students, many of whom will be “first time learners.” Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates a plus!
