HU Traffic Update

The District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) Georgia Avenue NW Dedicated Bus Lane and Streetscape Project is Underway.

The construction for the Georgia Avenue NW dedicated bus lane and streetscape project began this summer as part of a plan to upgrade the storm water system along Georgia Avenue from Barry Place to Florida Avenue.

This work is part of the DC Department of Transportation Georgia Avenue Dedicated Bus Lanes Project which will install dedicated lanes for buses, bicycles and taxis as well as improve the overall streetscape of Georgia Avenue with new sidewalks, curbs and gutters, lighting and ADA compliant sidewalk ramps.

Construction activities will impact an alternating lane of traffic on Georgia Avenue as well as access to sidewalks on a block-by-block basis. Construction is expected to be completed in early May 2016.

UPCOMING EVENTS
DID YOU KNOW?
Traditionally, Howard's commencement convocation is held on the main yard of the campus. Within the yard lies a pathway known as "The Long Walk." Originally, the pathway connected Greene Stadium and Founders Library. At Howard, "The Long Walk" represents the pathway to academic excellence and the struggle to achieve against all odds.  It also represents the transformation of students into civic leaders and global citizens while taking "the walk," characteristic of a Howard graduate. For that reason, Howard Bison regard the main yard as sacred. Students often avoid walking on the grass, based on the superstition that walking on the grass will prevent you from graduating.
