Could you see if anyone recognizes this cat?
He/she has been sitting on the front stoop of my house at 1xx Adams St. NW tonight. Smooth coat, very friendly, and seemingly keen to come inside, which all leads me to believe it's a house cat who got lost. Also, I generally recognize the alley cats who live in this area, but this isn't one of them.
I can't take him/her inside, as my own cat is quite territorial, so I've left out water for tonight.

ReplyDeleteThis cat has been hanging around our back door in the 2300 block of 1st every morning. It likes our dogs and wants to come in the house. We have the same feeling, that it is a house cat who has been lost or abandoned.
ReplyDeleteOriginal poster and photographer here. I hope someone in the neighborhood can adopt it, if no one claims it as their own. It's a very charming cat and would make a great pet.
ReplyDeleteI think a neighbor on Rhode Island lost a cat.
ReplyDeleteSJ can you offer any more info? The cat is still hanging around here on Adams.
DeletePlease have your neighbor email Scott for my contact info so we can coordinate directly. Thanks!
DeleteI posted his photo on twitter and a neighbor recognized him as Rico but I don't know who his owners are. He's microchipped, as he was picked up by the humane society once before.
DeleteIs the cat still around? Does he need a home?
ReplyDeleteYes, he was on my stoop this morning. If no one claims him by tomorrow, I'll give the Humane Society a call to get a read on his microchip. Thanks for the tips, all!
DeleteThe Humane Society came and picked him up tonight. As you guessed, he was microchipped and his name was Rico. He was apparently adopted in April 2015.
ReplyDeleteBizarrely, the owner declined to have the cat dropped off, even though he lives only steps away from us on the 2300 block of 1st St. Instead, he said he would pick him up from the shelter tomorrow.
I'd hoped this would end with a happy reunion rather than a trip to the shelter. But from what I could tell of that interaction, I suspect that Rico may be needing another home within a couple of days. In any case, thanks again to the commenters here for their tips.
Aww that makes me really sad. I would've happily taken Rico home had I known all this. Do you know which shelter he was taken to?
DeleteYes, likewise. I honestly regretted calling him in rather than finding a neighborhood solution like this when I saw Animal Control carting him off. It looks like his photo is up today at the New York Ave. shelter, although strangely under another name: Emmett. But I'm sure that's him because it has my address listed as where he was found. Please see after him if you think you can take him home with you.
