Tiny Spa Pops Up at DC’s First Microliving Community

[District of Columbia] – Wonder Woman Wellness (WWW) – a massage therapy practice with a 5-star Yelp rating – will open a pop-up office at the pioneering DC tiny house community Micro Showcase next week.

On October 17, from 9:30 AM—12:30 PM, WWW will see clients in the Studio Shed on the Micro Showcase property at 21 Evarts Street, NE.

Much like the affordable housing crisis in DC, commercial leasing is cost-prohibitive for many small businesses, so Beandrea July, Owner of Wonder Woman Wellness, turned to the tiny house movement.

“My massage therapy practice is mobile, and while some of our clients want housecalls, others prefer to be treated in an office space,” explains July, who has been working in the healing arts for a decade.

“Micro Showcase makes perfect sense for my small business because I don’t need that much space to operate. Plus being on the grounds feels like being in nature even though you are in the heart of the city. It is a unique experience that clients cannot get anywhere else in DC,” she adds.

The Studio Shed that will house the Wonder Woman Wellness ‘tiny spa’ is a 288 ft2 structure built in the spring of 2014. The spa will offer Therapeutic Massage, Reiki, and Hot Stones to individuals.

Instead of creating another beautiful residential microunit, Micro Showcase Owner Brian Levy built the Studio Shed with a multi-use, communal purpose in mind.

“The design challenge here was to be everything else: woodshop, metal shop, bike repair and store, large dining room, guest space, fireplace lounge, recording studio, and meditation space. It can be all of these things, although not simultaneously,” Levy said. “Every piece of furniture except one is mounted on lockable casters for easy reconfiguration.”

The Wonder Woman Wellness pop-up spa will also be held in November on the third Saturday of the month. Other pop-up locations around the District are currently being finalized.
