Funeral services for Mr. Maurice Toler and Dr. Vernise Steadman
In loving remembrance of our beloved friends and neighbors, Mr. Maurice Toler who passed away on November 3, 2015 and his wife of 32 years
Dr. Vernise Steadman passed on November 5, 2015.
They were longtime neighbors of the Bloomingdale community. You could pass by their home on any day and hear Maurice playing music from his jazz collection. Vernise will be missed dearly by many of her students and colleagues at the University of the District of Columbia. She often said “I will never retire because my students need me.”
The funeral service will be held on Friday November 13, 2015 at Israel Baptist Church, 1251 Saratoga Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20018.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, followed by the formal services at 12:00 Noon. Private burial.

Maurice and Vernise were the most lovely, warm, and welcoming couple. They were always a joy to be around, and they are deeply missed on Flagler Place. We were so lucky to have them as neighbors. DeleteDr. Steadman was a good professor and she definitely cared about her students. She had a warm personality and she will truly be missed by her faculty and students. RIP Dear Angel.
