I have been really surprised
that there has been so little attention to this monstrosity of a pop-up,-out
and over on the unit block of Channing street NW. PpoVille covered it earlier, but
this thing is seriously disturbing.
The new building takes up almost three
times the footprint of the original row house. This monster is the most
egregious example of developer zealousness that I have ever seen and I am
shocked that it was allowed. Certainly seems worth some attention given all the
developer insanity that we are seeing these days.
Check it out for yourself..
To change things like this, your focus MUST be with DC and not the developers.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is hideous.
ReplyDeleteHistoric Designation is one good step toward dissuading these kinds of developers from our neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThere's a Stop Work notice on the property now.
ReplyDeleteHistoric Designation, in and of itself, will not stop expansions or use changes. The Historic Preservation Office will confirm this.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know who is the developer? It looks similar to the AX behemoths on W and V Streets. Has anyone researched the permit?
ReplyDeleteIt's a Prudhomme project, who has done projects on North Capitol and First Streets, which were on smaller lots.

ReplyDeleteWhy did the contractors I spoke to tell me I would be unable to build a carport with a deck on top because we would exceed the maximum allowable lot coverage percentage?
ReplyDeleteYou can exceed the lot coverage percentage if you have the right connections in DCRA and the money to go through the permit approval process.
