Since
Bloomingdale is mulling neighborhood Historic District designation, I thought
that the community might like to see this message from the DC Historic
Preservation Office.
It is not a
nomination for a neighborhood to obtain Historic District designation, but
rather an individual property seeking to be landmarked.
Note that when a nomination for a property to be individually landmarked is filed with the DC Historic Preservation Office, any demolition permit submitted after the date of the nomination filed must wait until the nomination is processed. The protection starts on the date of the filed nomination with DC HPO.
Neighborhood Historic District designation -- on the other hand -- is the exact opposite. If a nomination is filed to have a DC neighborhood historically designated, the neighborhood is not protected until the very END of the process.
