Subject: First Street Tunnel Community Update, March 18, 2016
Greetings First Street Tunnel Stakeholders,
Please Read!
This notice is to remind you of First Street Tunnel activities that are
actively underway or that are soon approaching.
Abigail Will
Begin Mining the Adams Street Adit Tunnel Starting March 18, 2016:
Abigail has been lowered into the shaft and
she will mine the micro-tunnel starting on Friday, March 18 through Thursday,
March 31, 2016. Work hours will be from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Friday; and from
8 am to 8 pm on weekends. If ground
conditions allow, SKJD will pause operations on Sunday, March 20 and Sunday,
March 27, 2016. Mining of the adit tunnel could be complete in as little
as seven days, but again, depending on soil conditions, the operation could
take 14 days. Residents living near the Adams Street Construction Staging
Area will experience different noise patterns with the micro-tunnel operation.
SKJD’s surface construction activities will remain under the noise
limits.
143 W Street Alternative Parking Area Closing on March 31, 2016: On Thursday,
March 31, 2016, the Alternative Parking Area (APA) located at
143 W Street will close. For those of you who have parking
tags for the 143 W Street lot, your tag will transfer to the Bryant Street
Alternative Parking Area. You need not take any action, other than
to park at the Bryant Street lot effective Friday, April 1,
2016. Please make sure your license plate number and registration
are current and are on file with us by contacting shuttle services through the
24/7 Hotline. Shuttle service from the Bryant Street APA to residents’
homes will be available. You can still apply for an APA
tag. Applications are available at the guard station at the Bryant
Street lot. Call the 24/7 Hotline at 1-844-FST-INFO
(1-844-378-4636) for more information.
Next Tunnel Forum Meeting: The
next Tunnel Forum meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 7 pm. The meeting location will be
St. George’s Episcopal Church at 160 U Street, NW. Please
join us! In addition to construction updates, we will discuss
restoration and landscaping of disturbed areas.
Please continue to check our web site for
updated project information (http://dcwater.com/workzones/projects/first_street_tunnel/). And,
as always, feel free to contact us directly if you have any questions. If
you have a concern or complaint about ongoing construction, please call the

An expansion on "different" would have been useful. I see they've also casually extended the hours from 8 AM to 6 PM per the last update to 8 AM to _8 PM_. That's nice of them. Well, I guess whatever gets them out of here sooner is for the best.
ReplyDeleteThe "staging area" for the Adams works has created even worse parking conditions around the intersection of First and Adams, and frequently blocks access to alleys. It doesn't seem much consideration is being given to residents as the construction zone just continues to expand. Rude construction workers just standing in the middle of the roadways for no reason blocking traffic just adds to the wonderful atmosphere. Don't give me evil stares, just kindly move your feet.
ReplyDeleteOh it's quite clear they have no consideration for the residents. Cannot wait for this poorly executed and managed project to be over.
