Below is a public notice from the DC Historic Preservation Office.
See the purpose of this notice:
"This notice is the official monthly announcement by the District of Columbia’s Historic Preservation Office (HPO) of pending matters of public interest. It includes items related to preservation planning, designation of historic landmarks and historic districts, and project reviews before the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB)."
Note the lone LeDroit Park street address below -- 1922 3rd Street NW. It is on the agenda for this month's HPRB for "concept/landscape paving and sunken court."
So if Bloomingdale were to become a Historic District, then you might see a similar inclusion in a HPO public notice for a similar project in Bloomingdale.

Thanks for all these educational posts!
ReplyDeleteAs a very interested homeowner who struggles as an equally harried parent of two to make the BCA and other meetings where historic district designation implications have been discussed, this whole string of articles have been key in me formulating my opinion on the matter- which will be to support a Bloomingdale Historic District, for as much of the expanse of Bloomingdale as possible where support can be found.
As I have learned and come to assess through these articles, the relatively small costs / burdens in enhanced reviews and some small lost flexibility of future add-ons to my property and others are outweighed - to me - by the benefits of architectural preservation and enhancing cohesion of Bloomingdale as a distinctive place of its own, given Bloomingdale's specific characteristics (i.e. I could see Eckington going another way given so much industrial or under-developed space that doesn't call for new construction but could be best adapted with modern materials).
Thanks again for all of the effort on this, Scott! And for keeping the education so balanced- because this is not an easy call, and you have been scrupulous in describing the limits in both potential preservation benefits and the potential restrictions/ downsides, too.
A resounding second to this comment! Thanks to Scott for the educational posts and to Alexandra for sharing a thoughtful, appreciative comment.
