The next ANC 5E public monthly meeting is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, 7:00 pm, Friendship-Armstrong Public Charter School, 1400 First Street, NW.

ANC 5E voted to:

Oppose MRP/RIA Shopping Center PUD Application.

Support A Letter of Support for Wesley Housing Development Corporation for DHCD Funding to Rehab the Brookland Place Apartment Complex located at 7th and Hamilton Street, NE.

Support A Letter of Support for Traffic Calming near U & V Street, NW.

Support BZA #19296 - 26 Adams Street, NW - Special Exception to Adding Slider Doors to the Third Floor on the Back of the House as well as a Dormer Above the Doors.

Support A resolution in opposition to a homeless family shelter proposed for 326 R Street, NE.

Harry Thomas Recreation Center

Single Member District 5E04 meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 9, 2016. The meeting convenes from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Summit Apartments, 116 T Street, NE, second floor conference room. The agenda reflects presentations by the Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of General Services, and Statehood/Constitution representatives.

Opening of Area Outdoor Swimming Pools

The District of Columbia outdoor swimming pools will open for the season Memorial Day weekend. For all new comers to the Eckington community, our Harry Thomas Recreation Center, located at 1743 Lincoln Road, NE, is home to one of the few outdoor swimming pools in Ward 5. Have a great Memorial Day weekend!!!

Summer 2016 Pool Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 11:00 am to 8:00 pm: Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm: Closed Tuesday.  

Historic Designation

The ANC 5E continues to work toward formulating criteria for civic associations/communities, seeking historic designation, to follow prior to requesting application support.

McMillan Development

Vision McMillan Partners, along with the District of Columbia, announced that an update of the McMillan Concept Design has been submitted to the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB). This update is in response to the HPRB's recommendation that it conduct a final design review of the project following approval by the Zoning Commission and the Mayor's Agent.

The submission materials focus on the public parcels, including the park, service courts and elements within those parcels that were refined since HPRB approval in October 2013. The hearing is scheduled for 1:45 to 3:00 pm Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 441 4th Street, NW.
