WORK HAS STARTED ON REPAVEMENT OF ALLEY BETWEEN THE  UNIT BLOCKS OF T STREET AND RHODE ISLAND AVE. NW!!

This alley is to be re-paved in brick!.  Work on the alley began August 12 and the alley will be closed to vehicular traffic  for about 2 weeks.

Earlier this week, I called a special SMD meeting to discuss questions and concerns of residents about the alley work.  Residents were primarily concerned about dumping of trash and unused supercans left in the alley.  It was decided that DPW will be asked to remove all unmarked trash cans, attempts will be made to install "No Dumping Signs" and camera, and DDOT has been asked to pave the public space alley easement to enable residents to easily move their supercans to and from the alley for trash collection.

Consistent with recommendations in the Bloomingdale Village Square's Architecture & Design Plan (available at www.bloomingdalecivicassociation.org), these residents also expressed interest in transforming the alley into a pleasant space where young and old can informally gather and play, by creating hanging  and other gardens, and public art including murals.

Mayor Bowser has indicated a desire to hold a ribbon-cutting of the new alley.  And afterwards, residents want to celebrate the long-awaited new alley with an old-fashion "alley party"!.  So please, keep tuned in!!
