calling all neighbors: 52 O Street's FURTHERMORE is looking for local residents interested in participating in two "soundwalks" on 10-08-2016 and 10-15-2016

Calling all neighbors!

The artist collective FURTHERMORE is looking for local residents interested in participating in two public “soundwalks” on Saturday 10/8/2016 @1pm and Saturday 10/15/2016 @ 11am. The Soundwalks are part of ECHO: INTERSECTION MIXTAPE, an art intervention curated by the Van Alen Institute as part of its placemaking initiative, supported by the D.C. Office of Planning.

If you are interested in participating in a SOUNDWALK on the following days, please contact Natalie Campbell: intersectionmixtape@gmail.com and we will be in touch with details

Soundwalks are neighborhood walking and listening tours that last about 1.5 hours. As a participant, you will be asked to listen and identify sounds that you associate with different ideas and feelings (noise, music, the past, the future, the present, etc.) The FURTHERMORE team will record the sounds you identify. This is a creative exercise to help understand how individuals sense and define the space in which they live. The samples will be used in an audio mix of community-sourced sounds as a collective portrait of Bloomingdale, Eckington, and adjacent neighborhoods in Mid City East. INTERSECTION MIXTAPE will culminated in a listening party live event and giveaway on Saturday October 22nd, in a public event sited on North Capitol Street.

You can also contribute sounds to INTERSECTION MIXTAPE by phone!

Dial the below numbers to contribute YOUR voice to the mix:

(202) 350-1633            What do you call the place where you live?

(202) 670-5839            Make a sound for your community.

(202) 656-8645            Share a memory that connects you to your neighborhood.

(202) 656-6820            What sound would you like to hear more of around here?

NOTE: by recording a message, you agree that your recorded voice/sound can be remixed/reused in the future under a Creative Commons license.
