can the former New Reservoir Market be grandfathered into a liquor store ?

So the current rumor for the former New Reservoir Market at 1st &U Street NW is that the street-level will become a liquor store.

I am not sure that the grandfathered use a convenience store carries over to a liquor store.

It is zoned R-4 / RF-1 -- not commercial -- so perhaps a zoning map amendment may need to be pursued.  Similar to the process that Big Bear Cafe went through.

Of course, the rumor could be altogether false.
