Is there a way to find out in advance whether our BCA membership is active? I can't recall when I paid my membership dues if there was a way to have it automatically renew and I'm concerned that my membership might have expired and therefore I might not be able to vote.
Is a vote by the civic association binding in any way on the neighborhood? If a dues-charging association gets to decide rules for everyone, that is pretty undemocratic.
A civic association vote is not binding. The Historic Preservation Review Board will hear from anyone who wants to testify at a hearing. That is the only vote that will lead to an historic district. A civic Association can not create a historic district, even though Bloomingdale qualifies in all five categories that make a district eligible to become historic.
It may not be binding, but it may be interpreted as the voice of the community. Let everyone vote on it before you impair people's property rights. No poll tax.
