Subject: [MPD-5D] Information on Upcoming Snow Storm

Neighbors,

In preparation for the winter emergency forecast for tonight and into tomorrow, Councilmember McDuffie wanted to share some important numbers and information that may be useful during the winter event:
·       District response – The best place for information about the District of Columbia’s response to the snow storm is at http://snow.dc.gov – there you can track plows and get all the latest information. If you have non-emergency needs from DC during the storm, the best place to call is 311 (if you live near the Maryland line and use a cell phone, you may have difficulty simply calling 311 because it goes to PG Country 311. In that case, you can direct-dial DC 311 at 202-737-4404). For emergencies at all times, call 911.
·         Department of Public Works (DPW) has suspended street sweeping for Tuesday, and all scheduled bulk trash pickup appointments for Tuesday are cancelled and will be rescheduled.
·         Residents and Businesses are required to shovel their sidewalks within the first eight hours of daylight after the storm ends
o   Residential property owners may be exempt from sidewalk shoveling enforcement if you live in your own home and are 65 years old and/or a person with a disability. Residents must apply annually for the exemption. It will not carry over from one year to the next. More information on the law and to apply for your exemption go to: http://snow.dc.gov/service/sidewalk-shoveling-exemption
o   To volunteer to shovel the walk of a neighbor who has requested assistance, sign up through ServeDC here: http://bit.ly/2nglQDu
·         PEPCO Customers can track any outages and response online here: http://bit.ly/2lTWgns . If you should encounter any down powerlines, stay away from the downed powerline and immediately report by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662).
·         Washington Gas - Gas Emergency Line (703) 750-1400 // Washington Gas Customer Service: 703-750-1000
·         WMATA – MetroAccess service is suspended starting at 4pm today (Monday).
·         Homelessness during the storm – Anyone can call the Shelter Hotline to report someone who needs to come in from the cold. To request transportation to shelter for persons in DC who are experiencing homelessness, contact the toll-free Shelter Hotline: (202) 399-7093 or 311. Include the time, the address or location of the sighting, and a description of the person’s appearance.
