Young man beat up - V & 1st NW
Andreas
Storgard, Bloomingdale
A young man
just got eaten up and kicked while down on the ground by a group of 5-6 young
men. They ran off towards 2nd St when a witness approached, who described them
as laughing while running away. Didn't seem to want to steal anything, just
beat him up. Seems random, not a known victim. Cops and ambulance on the scene.
Scary sh*t. We gotta be more vigilant. I heard screams but didn't come out
until the ambulance arrived. I'm mad at myself.

It is tough to act. You should at least turn on your outdoor lights when you hear screaming, maybe open and slam shut your door and generally make it known someone is watching. That might be enough to save a victim. And, call the police the second you hear the screams. Teenagers laughing at beating up people on the street is a scary scenario, and shows they have no fear of you or the law.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if those sadly violent youth had a Glen Echo type community building campus at McMillan to experience and participate in good solid integrity building, there would be less terrible youth violence.Has it been tried or has the DC govt warehoused the site to deliver the plum to VMP?
ReplyDeleteGlen Echo in West Bethesda (why there, and not here?)offers a catalog of 90 pages (twice a year!) of classes, workshops, theatre, music, festivals, weddings, carousel, photography, dance, glass art, painting, gallery shows etc. etc.
Maybe something productive in their lives like urban agriculture, training and jobs in building trades restoring the site might provide these kids a stronger connection to our community than they obviously have now. VMP 3000 servile positions low end, dead end jobs where they will have to live in West Virginia and drive some clunker in to DC every day. , Think that is good, or "Walkable Neighborhoods of EYA.". These kids need a lot, obviously, police is not the answer or an outdoor light on a motiopn detector! Please. careers not jobs! Keep them active in positive things.
But you support illegal development at any cost, pollution, congestion, failed EMS services, NUTTIN matters, Right?
Our public land is for our benefit, and green space, big community green space, like a Wolf Trap concert stage. You walk to shows on a hot summer night, and believe it or not, you don't drive,,OH MY GOD, walk to the park with your kids. Amazing!!See proper urban planning is not a McPark in front of a "grocery store" and condos..with 69,000 vehicle trips congesting the street a day, and 600 buses ferrying the residents of private Town center 1/2 mile to metro. Cause they can't walk! boo hoo!.
Does anyone know if the young man is ok? Any updates on identifying/catching the teens who attacked him?
