Subject: Howard University's Infrastructure Repairs

Dear Neighbors:

As you have probably heard through the media, Howard University’s heating infrastructure was severely compromised due to the recent inclement weather conditions we experienced when we returned from our Winter Break.  Boiler malfunctions and broken pipes across the campus have required the closure of the University for two days, caused buildings to be completely shut down, employees to be relocated or required to telework, classes to be delayed and/or transferred to locations outside of their regular buildings and communications systems to be interrupted.

Our physical facilities teams, their contractors and vendors have been working around the clock to help us maintain our operations in a responsible and safe manner.  Some of the remedial solutions we have had to install have caused inconvenience to our students, faculty, staff, visitors and neighbors.  These extraordinary circumstances have called for extraordinary measures, but we hope they will be minimal as we work diligently to restore the campus.

Over this weekend, we will continue to do everything we can to recover from these extensive weather-related  damages.  Please be advised that you will likely see multiple trucks, vendors, equipment and activity around several of our campus facilities as we try to assess, repair and recover from these conditions.

We apologize for any disruption we may cause in the interim, and we ask for your patience as we move through these challenging times.
