Your supervisor walks into your office and delivers the bad news: You’re getting fired. What do you say in response?

“That’s awesome!”

At least that’s what you do in “Improv for Business Leaders,” a class that uses improvised comedy to help Washingtonians sharpen their professional skills. In the course, held in a basement in Northwest D.C., students scream their throats raw, deliver ridiculous speeches and shout “That’s awesome!” about things that certainly aren’t awesome — all in the name of doing their jobs better.

The course is taught by the founders of Unified Scene Theater, a small operation headquartered in the Bloomingdale neighborhood.
                                                                                                 
Instructors Shawn Westfall and Kathy Baird Westfall, who are both performers with backgrounds in advertising, started the class two years ago, after Baird Westfall had a breakthrough at an executive leadership training.
