Subject: [LeDroitPark] THIS SATURDAY! Community event in the Park at LeDroit

See our update on the event:

Please join the Friends of the Park at Ledroit for LeDroit Park's annual Spring community event in the park.  This year, the theme is "Birds, Bugs and Flowers" - in conjunction with the iNaturalist's 2018 City Nature Challenge (http://citynaturechallenge.org/).  We will help to document urban wildlife (animals and plants) in the park! We will also have music, face painting, a tree scavenger hunt, crafts, and LUNCH will be served by Common Good City Farm as part of their Spring opening celebration (10am-1pm).  This event is co-sponsored by the LeDroit Park Civic Association and Common Good City Farm.

Four very special guests will also join us for our event:

Tom Noll - Our neighbor, artist and kid's book author will visit again with his colorful truck to read his wonderful books on how kids can recycle and help the environment.

Rodney Stotts - Rodney Stotts is a falconer and licensed raptor specialist from South East Washington DC. A former staff member of the Earth Conservation Corps, he is a mentor and youth community leader.  Mr. Stotts creates transformative opportunities that connect youth to the environment and community.  Rodney will bring some of his feathered friends to our event.

Tori Johnson Jones - "The Soil is Good" is Tori Johnson-Jones' first children’s book. Her passion to become an author was born following the birth of her daughter, Auset Sophia.  Prior to becoming an author, Tori travelled the world as a celebrity makeup artist, working with clients such as Destiny's Child and Outkast. In all, she worked professionally for more than 15 years in the music business, even going on to become a successful singer/songwriter and performer.

Bernice DeMarco - Bernice is an entomologist whose goal is to teach adults and children about insects, which ones are harmful and which ones are beneficial.  I want to show people that they can overcome their fears while they are learning all the cool things bugs can do! She’s taught people from age 3 to 93 and there is always something new to learn about all different kinds of insects.  Bernice will have her bug collection with her, showcasing all kinds of bugs.
