View this email in your browser Neighbors, I am pleased to announce that my office will host summer community office hours at various locations throughout Ward 5 during the D.C. Council summer recess period. Monday through Thursday, twice a day, we will be in locations across Ward 5 to hear your concerns. The first two weeks of locations are listed below and full details can be found on my website. I encourage you to stop by and share any concerns or ask questions during our morning and evening community hours. In Service, Kenyan In this issue of the Ward 5 Report: Kenyan in the Community Rhode Island Ave and Brookland Metro Stations to CLOSE July 21 - September 3 Read Councilmember McDuffie's statement on Initiative 77 and the Tipped Workers Fairness Amendment Act of 2018. Kenyan in the Community Rhode Island Ave and Brookland Metro Stations to CLOSE July 21 - September 3 Two Metro stations will be closed starting Saturday, July 21, through Monday, September 3 (Labor Day). The shutdown is necessary for Metro to repair the platform at Rhode Island Ave station, Metro's oldest outdoor station. Metro has the following efforts planned to mitiage the impact on residents: Free shuttles between stations. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Fort Totten and NoMa-Galludet U. Free express shuttles from closed stations to locations downtown. Metro will run free express shuttle buses during AM/PM rush hours between Brookland and Rhode Island Ave and the areas of Metro Center, Gallery Place and Union Station. G9 all day. The G9, which normally only runs during rush hour along the length of Rhode Island Ave, will operate during all hours the Metrorail system is open. The G9 was launched in March 2017 after Councilmember McDuffie secured funds for it in the D.C. budget. Temporary dedicated bus lane on Rhode Island Ave NE. Working with D.C. Department of Transportation, Metro will establish a new, temporary dedicated bus lane along Rhode Island Ave NE. The lane will operate Monday through Saturday from 7am to 7pm and is not scheduled to remain in place after the shutdown. For full details visit www.wmata.com/redline.
