The Washington Times retracted and apologized on Monday for an op-ed column that made erroneous statements about the murder of Seth Rich, a Democratic National Committee staff member who has been the subject of a right-wing conspiracy theory.

The conservative newspaper withdrew the column, published in March, that asserted that Rich and his brother Aaron downloaded a cache of DNC emails and sold it to the website WikiLeaks.
“The Washington Times now does not have any basis to believe any part of that statement to be true, and the Washington Times retracts it in its entirety,” the paper said in a published statement. It added, “The Washington Times apologizes to Mr. Rich and his family.”
