Members of
the public are invited to virtually join the Council’s April 7th
Legislative Meeting which is scheduled to begin at 10 am. The

Council to Vote
on Additional COVID-19 Response Emergency Legislation
|
|
|
On
Tuesday, April 7, the Council will consider the COVID-19 Response Supplemental Emergency
Amendment Act of 2020, the Council's second emergency
legislation in response to the coronavirus. The measure touches a
lot of policy areas and was built through consensus on the Council.
Among other provisions, it supports CBE contracting during the
public health emergency, expands utility shut-off prohibitions to
include cable and telecommunications, and requires commercial
and residential mortgage servicers to defer mortgage payments for
property owners experiencing hardship as a result of COVID-19.

Congresswoman
Norton Letter to BOP on Hope Village
|
|
|
This week
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton released a letter she sent to the
Director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), Michael Carvajal,
again asking BOP to investigate conditions at Hope Village, the
men’s halfway house in the District of Columbia, after learning a
that two residents died there in the last three days. Norton also
called on BOP to release as many residents from Hope Village as
possible and as would be safe for the residents and the community.

WMATA Updates
Closing Hours
|
|
|
|
As part of
its ongoing efforts to limit frontline transit workers’ exposure to
the public during the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, WMATA’s Pandemic
Task Force will further reduce rail and bus hours, starting Monday,
April 6, 2020. Metrorail will close at 9 pm every day, while
opening at 5 am Monday through Friday and 8 am
on Saturday and Sunday.
Metrobus service also will end earlier each day, with the last
trips departing at or before 11 p.m. Buses that enter service at or
before 11 p.m. will continue to the end of the route before going
out of service.
