Happy Juneteenth! It wasn’t until 1865 that enforcement of the
emancipation proclamation was enforced in Texas freeing all
enslaved people. Today we are reminded that we are not free until
we are ALL free.
Although we are no longer fighting for freedom from chattel
slavery, we are fighting for freedom from the structural racism and
institutional bias that lead to severe inequities in healthcare,
housing, education, and economics within the black community.

To all the dads across Ward 5 and everywhere, Happy
Father’s Day! I hope you have the chance to celebrate a father in
your life. To be a father is a special blessing and I
hope all fathers and those who love them enjoy this
weekend.

On Monday, June 22,
2020, Phase Two will begin allowing certain businesses to
reopen and activities to resume under specified conditions outlined
at http://coronavirus.dc.gov/phasetwo.
As we prepare to enter phase 2 lets continue to do all we can to
flatten the curve by:
- Getting
tested!
- Wearing a mask or
face covering
- Washing your hands
- Staying home if you
feel sick
