Chill with ice cream sandwiches made with these cookies

Hi BFM fans

Last week we had our first longish lines to enter the market because everyone came early to beat the heat.  You can safely arrive  later without missing out.  The stands are full!

And please be sure to drink water before you come to market.  Hydrate is my favorite word this summer.  I also recommend putting a ripe melon in the fridge when you get home and make some gazpacho to sip all week. This recipe is from Jose Andres.

This week why not combine a chicken from Groff's Content with Shenandoah Seasonal's REAL celery (not the boring supermarket stuff).  If you have never bought celery at at farmers market, you are in for a treat: a Taiwanese inspired recipe for both:--

And for vegetarians: the inspiration was this classic Taiwanese recipe:"It’s similar to a cold appetizer found in Taiwanese-Chinese cuisine, simply called hot mustard celery salad. In the dish’s usual preparation, blanched celery ribs are peeled or have the tough strings pulled out, and are then tossed with a dressing made with hot mustard powder. (The wasabi you often get from Japanese takeout has the same tingly flavor profile as hot mustard powder.) " You can read more about the Chicken recipe here.

This very flavorful celery would also make you happy in a great potato salad, or with sweet fresh cabbage and carrots in a slaw.
Have you ever tried Carla Hall's peach and tomato salad with pepper, chile and parsley?  The heat wave makes for very sweet fruit, both tomatoes and peaches like a bit of a different kind of heat.

GROFF's CONTENT: Lots of cuts of beef, pork and chicken this week at the stand this week...

CHINESE STREET MARKET POPUP (AKA Those DUMPLINGS) for your East Asian, handmade, flash-frozen dumplings, buns, shumai and more.  Try the Dan Dan Noodle kits too. Don't forget duck stock . T

SWIRLY GIRL CREAMERY  Here are a few of the cheeses to look forward to on Sunday. Mark K is your guide.  Are you ready for a Greek Salad with tomatoes, cucumber and WHIPPED feta? Yes, whip their feta and you will be delighted by what this simple change in texture does.

  • Morbier: this semi soft cow cheese with a layer of vegetable ash is a shout out to one of my favorite French cheeses.
  • Winter Morning is their most popular, a bloomy rind cheese
  • Feta, Tomato Basil Bovre and Farmhouse cow cheeses are all great with pasta -- or on crackers.
  • You like Funky cheese, they have Mooster, Firetruck and Cowttin.  Mooster is soft and spreadable and melts well. Firetruck is a salty, hard, grater, Cowttin is similar to a triple cream.  The longer you keep it, the funkier it gets.  Very French.
