Prayer Service Tonight
It was just announced
that the jury has reached a verdict in the murder trial of former
Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the death of George
Floyd. As the verdict will be read late this afternoon, the
Diocese (hosted by St. Margaret's and Epiphany) will plan to
gather via Zoom for an evening prayer service to pray together as
a diocese at 6:30 p.m. Eastern, regardless of the
outcome.

Dear Friends of the
Diocese of Washington,
The nation and the world
are waiting in anticipation of the outcome of the trial against
Former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of
Mr. George Floyd.
As we wait, St. John’s,
Lafayette Square, is planning an ongoing ministry presence to
take place in front of the church, to hold a safe space for
prayer, meditation and conversation. The rector of St. John’s,
the Rev. Rob Fisher has initiated this plan, and the Reverends
Savannah Ponder and Will Morris, associates at St. John’s, are
working out the details now. Clergy and lay prayer leaders who
would like to participate, including those of other denominations
and faiths, are being invited to fill out this form. St. John’s hope to create a rota of people
to be present, which will include multi-denominational and
interfaith leaders.
At this time, there are
many things we do not know. As the situation develops, the team
at St John’s will reach out to you, once the precise needs/times
are known.
In addition, the Rev.
Glenna Huber, rector of Epiphany Church, DC, and the Rev.
Richard Weinberg, rector of St. Margaret’s, DC, are planning
an online vigil at 6.30 p.m. tonight.

or online, to pray for the healing of our nation, for justice and
for peace.
